APRM Biennial Report - Governance Mechanisms for the Implementation of Agenda 2063 and Agenda 2030

In a collaborative effort initiated in 2019 by the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) and the Sustainable Development Goals Centre for Africa (SDGCA), significant strides have been taken to enhance research and quality assessment in governance aspects relevant to the African Union Agenda 2063: The Africa We Want. This collaboration primarily focuses on advancing Aspiration Three of the AU 2063 agenda and SDG 16, which emphasizes the importance of strong, efficient, effective institutions, and peaceful societies. The report presented here represents a continued joint endeavor by both organizations to assist African nations in comprehending governance trends for the purpose of planning, implementing, and monitoring progress on these two vital agendas across the African continent.

This comprehensive report compiles an overview of the advancements made in alignment with SDG 16 and Aspiration Three of the AU Agenda 2063 within Africa. The findings are drawn from a diverse range of data sources, encompassing a holistic assessment of Voluntary National Reviews (VNRs) submitted to the High-Level Political Forum (HLPF) by 53 African countries from 2017 to 2022. Additionally, insights are derived from contributions made by AU Member States to drive progress on Agenda 2063, as part of the AU's continuous reporting efforts on the Agenda.
