The Agriculture sector in Zambia: A call for action for transformation

Lusaka, Zambia, 3rd-4th December 2019

Lusaka, Zambia- Sunday, 01 December -2019 - The Sustainable Development Goals Center for Africa through its Sub-Regional Center for Southern Africa and the Government of Zambia will hold a conference on the “Transformation of Agriculture in Zambia” scheduled to take place on 3rd and 4th December, 2019 at the Mulungushi International Conference Center in Lusaka Zambia. His Excellency Edgar Chagwa Lungu, President of the Republic of Zambia is expected to open and address this Conference.

Live Session Presentation of the Africa SDG Index and Dashboards 2019 Report

The Sustainable Development Goals Center for Africa (SDGC/A) in partnership with the Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) are excited to announce the Online launch of the Africa SDG Index and Dashboards 2019 Report.

The launch will take place during a live one-hour online session on Wednesday, 21st August 2019 at 2:30pm Central Africa Time (12:30 UTC) on the SDGC/A’s YouTube Channel: https://bit.ly/2KqQqGo The session will focus on the findings from the report, how African countries can use the Africa SDG Index and Dashboards as a tool to track their progress toward the SDGs

SDGs Implementation in Africa Reflections on a Three-Years Journey
Kigali, Rwanda, 12 - 14 June 2019

Kigali, 14.06.2019 – From June 12-14, Heads of States, policy makers, representatives of International Organisations, Civil Society Organisation, Research and Academia and the general public gathered together to discuss progress on SDGs implementation. The conference “SDGs Implementation in Africa – Reflections on a Three-Year Journey” commenced with two pre-conference days, which saw three in-depth sessions targeting specific topics highly relevant to the African context. The debates on Monitoring and Reporting on the SDGs, revitalizing National Development Banks, and Financing Education, Health, and Green Water were fruitful, engaging, and invited participants to share experiences and explore innovative solutions.

The 2nd African Dialogue on the World in 2050 (TWI2050)
Kigali, Rwanda, 30 - 31 October 2018

The Sustainable Development Goals Center for Africa (SDGC/A) in partnership with the Stockholm Resilience Centre (SRC) hosted the 2nd African Dialogue on the World in 2050 (TWI 2050) from 30 – 31 October 2018 at the Park Inn by Radisson in Kigali, Rwanda. During the workshop, participants from policy makers, business leaders, academicians, researchers and representatives from farmer organizations and civil society identified African regional pathways that enrich the global Sustainable Development Pathways and support of the implementation of Agenda 2030.

Live Session Presentation of the Africa SDG Index and Dashboards 2018 Report

The Sustainable Development Goals Center for Africa (SDGC/A) in partnership with the Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) held a live one-hour online session on Friday, 6th July at 2:00pm Central Africa Time (12:00 UTC). During the session, researchers from SDGC/A and SDSN presented the findings from the report, with a particular focus on how African countries can use the Africa SDG Index and Dashboards as a tool to track their progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The session concluded with a live Q&A from the participants watching the presentation from across the world.  

Expert Workshop on Answering the Call for an African Water Revolution
Kigali, Rwanda, 27 - 28 June 2018

The Sustainable Development Goals Center for Africa (SDGC/A), Stockholm International Water Institute (SIWI) and Stockholm Resilience Centre (SRC) hosted the Expert Workshop on Answering the Call for an African Water Revolution at the Kigali Serena Hotel on 27 to 28 June 2018. During the workshop, participants from governments, multilateral, bilateral and academic institutions, philanthropic foundations and the private sector identified what it takes to scale up green water investments across Africa and design a process in advance of a High-Level Roundtable in January 2019. Discussions focused on scaling Green Water technologies, options for financing the African Green Water Revolution and how best to garner the support of African leaders and the donor community for this important initiative. The workshop is the first in a series of related events throughout 2018. 

Launch of the Africa SDG Index and Dashboards 2018 Report
Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, 19 June 2018

The Sustainable Development Goals Center for Africa (SDGC/A) launched the Africa SDG Index and Dashboards 2018 Report, in partnership with the Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN). The launch was held at the Africa Union Conference Center in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The 2018 report was presented to Ambassadors and Permanent Representatives of the African Union, UN agencies, government officials and other stakeholders.  During the launch, Dr. Belay Begashaw, Director General of the SDGC/A delivered the opening address and was joined by H.E. Prof. Victor Harison, the African Union Commissioner for Economic Affairs and H.E. Mrs. Hope Tumukunde Gasatura, Ambassador of the Republic of Rwanda to Ethiopia.

Every Life Matters: Building and Strengthening Accountability in African Health Systems
Kigali, Rwanda, 8 - 9 March 2018

The Sustainable Development Goals Center for Africa (SDGC/A) conference entitled: Every Life Matters: Building and Strengthening Accountability in African Health Systems was held at Radisson Blu Hotel & Convention Centre, Kigali from 8th to 9th March 2018. The conference convened stakeholders to galvanize greater accountability and call for commitments and actions by all political and government actors and other leaders in the healthcare sector to deliver. The main purpose of the conference was to commence the discussion on defining the accountability framework necessary to achieve SDG 3 in Africa. Bringing together over 500 delegates from 41 countries in Africa and beyond, the conference was officially launched by Honorable Ambassador Claver Gatete, Minister of Finance of the Republic of Rwanda and featured opening address statements from Dr. Takao Toda (Vice President for Human Security and Global Health, JICA), Ms. Zouera Youssoufou (Chief Executive Officer, Dangote Foundation), and Honorable Dr. Diane Gashumba (Minister of Health for the Republic of Rwanda).

The African Dialogue On The World In 2050 (TWI2050): How can agriculture contribute to meeting the SDGs in the context of socio-ecological resilience and the conservation of agro-biodiversity in Africa? 
Kigali, Rwanda, 28-29 August 2017

The Sustainable Development Goals Center For Africa (SDGC/A) in collaboration with the Stockholm Resilience Center (SRC) hosted the African Dialogue On The World In 2050 (TWI2050) from 28th to 29th August 2017. The multi-actor Dialogue explored pathways for how agriculture can contribute to meeting the SDGs in the context of social-ecological resilience and the conservation, and sustainable use, of agro-biodiversity in Africa. The event brought together a wide variety of participants including policy makers, academicians, business leaders and civil society, invited from diverse organizations across Africa. The participants shared expertise and experiences from a wide variety of perspectives.

The Africa 2030 Report Peer Review Forum
Kigali, Rwanda, 24 August 2017

The Sustainable Development Goals Center For Africa (SDGC/A) in collaboration with JICA hosted a Forum on the Africa 2030 Report with Regional Directors, M&E Experts, Ministry Representatives, and Statisticians. The purpose of the forum was to bring together intellectuals such as monitoring and evaluation specialists and researchers from Africa, to encourage candid sharing, reflections and feedback on the Africa 2030 Report.

SDG Index & Dashboards: Launch of the 2nd Edition in Africa
Kigali, Rwanda, 11 July 2017

The Sustainable Development Goals Center for Africa (SDGC/A) and the Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) hosted the launch of the 2nd Edition of the SDG Index & Dashboards on 11th July 2017, in Kigali, Rwanda. During the launch in Kigali, participants from government, UN agencies, civil society, business, academia and other stakeholders were invited to better understand the SDG Index and Dashboards and provide inputs on how these tools can be leveraged in the implementation of SDGs in Africa and Rwanda specifically.

The Sustainable Development Goals Center for Africa Conference:  Mobilizing African Intellectuals Towards Quality Tertiary Education
Kigali, Rwanda, 5-6 July 2017

The Sustainable Development Goals Center for Africa (SDGC/A) conference entitled: Mobilizing African Intellectuals Towards Quality Tertiary Education was held at Radisson Blu Hotel & Convention Centre, Kigali from 5th to 6th July 2017. The conference created a coalition of African intellectuals that brainstormed and held principal discussions on practical actions, explore solutions and build consensual approaches on the major themes relevant to SDG implementation in tertiary education and research throughout Africa.
